TerraFire – Blast Everything in Sight
Different people have different ways of spending their free time. Some people like to go for a walk in the park, perhaps sit down on a bench and enjoy the fresh air. Some people like to meet up with friends and go to a pub. Some people like to sit in front of the TV with a bag of popcorn and watch some movies. Some people like to sit down in front of their computer and play a computer game.
Like the ORT Software-developed TerraFire, an arcade game that puts you in control of a ship that has to protect Earth from alien enemies. The goal in the game is quite simple: navigate your ship through heavily defended underground caverns, past wind tunnels, fire-walls and subterranean lakes, and destroy everything in sight.
It’s not all about blasting enemies out of existence though. You also have to recover stolen nuclear pods using your ship's tractor beam, then carry them back to the planet surface and beyond into hyperspace.
By playing TerraFire you will explore 5 unique worlds and play through 27 missions, 6 of which are in hyperspace.
Before you go get TerraFire and put it to the test, take a look at the technical details presented below:
Download – the download weighs in at 2.1MB, which means the download will complete in no time at all.
Supported OS – at the time of writing this and according to the developer, TerraFire provides support for Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, and Windows XP. You can play AstroFire on Vista and Windows 7, but only if you use DOSBox. Details on how to use DOSBox are available here.
Limitations – this game is freeware, so there are no limitations.
Top tip – try Astrogeddon instead. It is a more modern asteroid-blasting arcade game that works with Vista and Windows 7. It features 100 levels, more than 20 different enemy crafts, and some interesting powerups. It looks better than TerraFire as well.

Pros
- Lightweight download
- Freeware
- 27 missions, 5 unique worlds
Cons
- Controlling your ship is unlike what you’re used to in simple arcade games. Gravity influences the ship’s handling, so getting to grips on how to bet control it can prove to be challenging.
- Needs DOSBox to run on Windows versions newer than XP
